Dental Bridge Monroe, WA Bridges can be used in situations where a single tooth needs to be replaced or a span of multiple teeth needs to be replaced. They are made from porcelain in most cases because that material appears more natural and blends in better with the remaining teeth in the oral cavity. Bridges are typically secured to teeth on either side of the gap of missing teeth, 'bridging' space. Most of the time, they are removable which allows the patient to maintain the health of the gums in the gap. Patients who are missing a number of teeth or even a single tooth and are considering artificial tooth solutions should come to our office and discuss the possibility of bridges. We can do a thorough assessment and determine if a dental bridge might be the solution you need. Come see us at Monroe Smiles! Types of BridgesMost patients have likely heard of bridges but are unaware that there are actually multiple types. There are actually four different kinds of bridges available to patients. They are all excellent choices for different reasons. To figure out which bridge is the best for a patient's situation, we would need to perform an evaluation. The traditional bridge is the most commonly used bridge available. It is held in place by an abutment which is placed on the healthy teeth adjacent to the empty space of the missing teeth. This bridge can only be placed with healthy teeth on either side. A cantilever bridge is the second type and is exactly like the traditional bridge in every aspect except that it only requires one healthy tooth adjacent to the gap rather than two. This is obviously of benefit for those patients who have a minimal number of healthy teeth. A Maryland bridge is the same as a traditional bridge, with the exception that instead of using an abutment attached to the healthy teeth next to the gap, they are held in place by a crown metal framework which fuses to the abutment teeth. This one is not used very often and is typically reserved for those individuals who have compromised jawbones due to periodontal disease. Lifespan of BridgesA typical bridge can be expected to last anywhere from five to 15 years depending upon how well they are taken care of by the patient.
