Dental Exams Monroe, WA During your routine exam, our dentist will examine your teeth, dental x-rays and discuss any findings. If any treatment is recommended, our team will create and review your personalized treatment plan with you. Visual ExamThe visual exam includes two main components: dental x-rays and examining the teeth directly. Each of these plays a crucial role in your exam. Viewing dental x-rays allows our dentist to observe your underlying dental structure. This helps to note any potential issues, such as disease or teeth misalignment, that may be difficult to see by simply looking at the teeth. On the other hand, there can also be signs of dental issues that would not show on the dental x-ray, which is why the basic visual exam is also important. For instance, discoloration in the teeth or gums, sores and lesions, and other abnormal appearances would be uncovered during the visual exam. In addition, our dentist will check for signs of oral cancer. Dental Restorations and Oral AppliancesIf you have any history of dental restorations, it is especially important that our dentist examine them on a routine basis. Fillings, crowns, bridges, and other restorations could wear down over time. They can last for many years, but they may need to be replaced or touched up on occasion. These are simple procedures, but our dentist first needs to examine them to determine exactly what they need. Additionally, our dentist will examine any small oral appliances to ensure they are in good condition. For instance, a mouthguard may need to be altered if your teeth have changed or shifted over time or if you feel that it is too tight. Our dentist may also need to recommend replacement if the oral appliance is too worn down. Patient EducationOur dentist will let you know if they do note any unusual appearances or symptoms. If necessary, we will also recommend possible follow-up treatment or testing. For example, signs of oral cancer may be followed up with more comprehensive diagnostic tools. Tooth decay and other basic dental issues can be resolved at our office. Our dentist may recommend a filling, root canal, extraction, or other treatment. If there are no concerns, or you have already discussed the concerns, our dentist will then remind you how to best care for your teeth at home. You will still need to come in for routine appointments, but you also need to maintain proper oral hygiene on a daily basis. This includes brushing your teeth two times each day and flossing them at least one time a day. For more information on what is included in our dental exams, call Monroe Smiles at (360) 467-6386. |
